I may have not come across them yet, but would love to see posts about different tools and the ways you've used them in your home. I'm a novice DIYer so that kind of information would be very useful for me. All the best to you and your family.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8864666002840991252.post-12366374000429274922018-04-15T12:53:10.157-05:002018-04-15T12:53:10.157-05:00HI Jen, I've been following for years. First of all, thanks for sharing your talents with us. Recently discovered your blog while trying to organize my linen closet. To engage with readers further perhaps once/month offer a reader's challenge. Many of us that come to this blog don't have the natural gift that you do and would love some insight. I know for me, I get a lot of good ideas from your blog (such as wallpapering the back of a closet), but thats about it. I would love to show you my master closet. Its huge!! and kind of empty. Meanwhile my drawers are teeming with clothes. It just occurred to me that maybe I could kinda sorta put some of the clothes in the closet instead of the drawers? but how I don't know yet. You can't hang underwear can you?
I imagine with three boys it must be exhausting re-imagining and re-imagining different rooms in your house to entertain your readers. Enjoy your beautiful home and sink your teeth in the homes and spaces of poor disorganized schmucks like your readers (or maybe they are all organized and I am the only poor schmuck.) In any case, you know what I mean. Thanks again. Love your blog. My best to you and your family.Disorganized mommahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15050377169996009621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8864666002840991252.post-58286167713770241882018-03-02T15:43:36.123-06:002018-03-02T15:43:36.123-06:00The inbox is great! I used to follow you ...Thanks for your candor Jen! I used to follow you regularly until my job completely took over my life, leaving too little time for family, cleaning etc. I think as women, so many of the things that you voiced in this post are our everyday realities. I love my husband; compared to many he does so much. BUT, I still often feel like the greatest burdens of home, finance and parenting fall on me, on top of my more than full-time job. I often don't feel adequate in these areas at any given time. This soul baring post is exactly what we need more of. What areas are you struggling with? What can you look back on and wish you had done differently? What types of projects excite you most and why? I'm sure you've posted many of these things at some time or another. Don't stop! Show your humanity.

And to your other readers: Please comment. I know I'm terrible at it, but this post is such an important reminder that there are people on the other side of our digital experiences. Beautiful, real, feeling people that need to hear from us.

And snarky commentators need not apply. As women, we need to build each other up, not tear each other down. Let's not just say it, but do it. We are all human, we are flawed, and we can neither do everything nor be infallible. I'm also glad that you took the time to step back and enjoy your family --and take some breaths. Well, I think everyone has said just about everything--but I just wanted to particularly say that I enjoy your posts that take things slowly. Don't worry about showing us a finished product with each post--we all know that's not how life works. :) Here's a big ol' hug! You've got this!! You have to do what fills your heart, so keep at it whatever that is!
I am a longtime reader and infrequent commenter. I love to organize and that is what I come to your blog for, so I really don't need the "fluff" or in between posts. I often skim or skip over them entirely. The next home project on my list is making over the fireplace (paint and tile), which I haven't done before. The organizing projects on my list this year are the recently remodeled bathroom, linen closet, and laundry room (which houses all our paint and home improvement stuff, as well as a lot more!). Another topic that I would be interested in is what is a good process for keeping kids rooms and toys current as they grow? How to involve them in it and what is age appropriate? I feel like I am cleaning out their rooms every six months or so and it feels never-ending.
Happy new year to you and your family, and keep following your passion!Katenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8864666002840991252.post-31825584373636508552018-01-22T17:13:26.622-06:002018-01-22T17:13:26.622-06:00Hello! I hope I'm not just reiterating or repeating what so many have commented and said above, but I LOVE your blog. I've followed along since the early days of beige. I absolutely use your blog as a resource when a new space needs tackling.

Some of my favorite posts are your home updates - even just the smallest ones - like you swapped out a chair. It sounds silly but absolutely true. I often times stop by to see how you've used patterns together - you have an amazing eye for those colors and patterns! I always think I'm getting a little to eclectic and then I see something you did... "Oh, no... if Jen did it, then it's fine.".

You asked a question about consuming content in your post, because I find it so fascinating that we are consuming AND engaging with content so much differently than even just a year or two ago. I'm a big Instagram fan especially if you can wrangle in a story every now and then about your day or what you're working on and keeps the conversation going. It takes the conversation to a platform that's already in my hands and I'm on regularly anyway. Just my two cents!

Regardless of what you post, there's no doubt that it's quality - proof is in the pudding there. And I'll read it whenever it pops up!

Happy organizing,

Ashley Ashleynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8864666002840991252.post-59791601382245417352018-01-20T22:18:39.535-06:002018-01-20T22:18:39.535-06:00Jen, your colorful blog is the only one I kept my ...Jen, your colorful blog is the only one I kept my subscription to this year. I don’t normally comment because 1. I’m usually late to the game so 295 people have commented ahead of me. I have nothing different or new to add, and I don’t want to add to your workload of replies; 2. I already can’t remember your questions; and 3. I’m kind of lazy that way, more blog stalker than conversation joiner. But I hear and respect you for recognizing your struggles, and seeking new and different ways forward. As for everything else, I love when people share the process and what worked/didn’t work. I like the real-ness of how it all comes together. And I will endeavor to connect more. I don’t usually comment because I figure most “big” bloggers don’t have time to connect with a zillion readers, but you deserve feedback that lets you know your hard work makes a difference. I'm sorry it was more because one of the boys was ill -- a parents' nightmare! So, SO glad to hear he's all right! I love your attempt to reign it in and get back to the core of blogging -- honestly I've been missing that from you this year, and was worried that the posts were sparser because you were losing interest in the blog. I really, really love your organizing and cleaning posts (oh, who am I kidding, I LOVE all your posts!). But I think you are the best at the organizing and cleaning stuff and would love to hear more from you about those things, both big projects and small things. Sometimes the small projects make a huge difference.
I'd really like to hear more about the "having less" and how to get rid of it in conscientious ways. And a large-ish challenge would be good for me.
I disagree with another commenter that shorter posts would be better. I like hearing your whole thought process, and I think it was especially true of this post, since we hadn't heard from you in so long.
I've noticed a similar thought process among a couple of my other favorite bloggers: that you're all burnt out by being pulled away from your blogs. I found your blog shortly after moving back to my home following six months of seeking medical care for my middle child out of state. Coming home was euphoric, and I felt a vision of how I wanted us to live. Our home, however, with all the travel and people that had been in and out of our home in the time I was gone was non-functional. Your blog especially the way you discuss what didn't work as planned, how your needs change, and how you describe talking to kids about how they want to play helped so much! Your posts are always solving a problem that causes daily frustration or stops people from doing what makes them really happy. Thank-you so much for sharing and happy 2018!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8864666002840991252.post-91343300574168775902018-01-15T15:05:04.980-06:002018-01-15T15:05:04.980-06:00So happy you're back! Glad to see you are okay. I've only be...Hi Jen,
Glad to see you are okay. I've only been a reader for about a year or so and this blog has quickly turned into a favorite for all the organization ideas.

Conversation- I don't comment very much unless something particularly strikes me or I have a question that I need to ask. I think it would definitely be easier to have the comment box on top of the comments instead of at the bottom so you don't have to scroll past so many comments.
I do like to chatter, but I find blogs are generally not set up to chatter in their format. I chatter more in forum settings.

Content- I would like to see more reader rooms to get more ideas to how other people deal with their problem areas and organize them. For instance, your fridge setup is so nice, but mine can not be anything like yours. It's about half the size and with the amount of international cooking that I do I accumulate many sauces which I use regularly that have to live in the fridge. My fridge gets stuffed full very easily and I'd love to find more ideas on how to streamline it. Another one is ornaments. I love my Christmas tree with its 3 generations of special ornaments, but that leads to a myriad of shapes. They currently go into random small boxes wrapped up to protect them.

Some of my favorite posts are your smallest solutions. The washi tape with label maker for labeling cords is something I want to implement this year. Cleaning caddies are another. I do wish your project portfolio photos were organized better. I have it pinned, but I looked up the cord labeling project and couldn't find photos of it within the portfolio. I miss when they were organized by room since I could go directly to the room I was looking for organization solutions for.

Organization- Magazines are a problem area for me. I don't like cutting them up and I find so many things that I want to keep. Would love to hear more about your solutions. Another big one is collections. I would love to learn interesting ways to display them. Non-traditional storage solutions to protect from critters would also be great. Many of my pantry and wool items have to be bagged up to be protected from insects. Open drawers are asking for trouble. Finally, storage for very deep cabinets. My pantry cabinets are basically arm length deep. It's hard to figure out how to store things with how deep they are.Alison*Fashionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05938077071016348021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8864666002840991252.post-80484839160742574362018-01-12T18:05:40.809-06:002018-01-12T18:05:40.809-06:00just write about what you like best! follow your g...just write about what you like best! follow your gut and we will enjoy whatever you create :DAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8864666002840991252.post-53974700491480129282018-01-12T16:44:22.143-06:002018-01-12T16:44:22.143-06:00Hi Jen, I'm so glad you are back. I am happy to hear your son is okay and that you took a much needed break. I enjoy all of your posts, I especially enjoy the smaller how to organize a room or small area. One of my favorite posts you did was on the topic of dividing household chores among different family members and you had a little video where you interviewed your sons - so adorable! - I just found that piece really relatable and useful. I love your tutorials and projects - seeing amazing transformations is wonderful and I think my favorite may have been the hutch you got on craigslist because I'd love to do something similar. I also love when you have a project or something you'd like to change in your home, or even something that's in progress and you're just stuck. Who can't relate to that? A post every now and then that says "I'm still working on X, here's where we are with it..." reminds me that my own projects in various states of "done-ness" are normal and no on ever feels like their home is perfect. I loved the idea of the "What Would Jen Do?" series and even almost emailed you to ask for advice, but we have since moved, so I guess that problem is solved!
Basically, I just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do and sharing your life with us, I'm sure it can be draining when it's meant to be the opposite, and please never feel bad for taking the time you need to have a break. We'll be here whenever you decide to come back. :)
SallyAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05063276308699207481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8864666002840991252.post-76551553522663669952018-01-11T22:59:09.037-06:002018-01-11T22:59:09.037-06:00Hi Jen.. Sometimes, it's a time issue. Often, I feel that comments may not be read. Part of my own personally issues is that I worry about being annoying, and I worry that comments are annoying to bloggers. Also, comment formats/platforms don't always play nice with my internet filter (personal problem, I know :) Posting as "Anonymous" seems to be the only way to get things to work.)
Second, I only read two or three blogs anymore (you and Smitten Kitchen, and another cooking blog occasionally) because I am so over the monetization/affiliate-link-every-other-sentence/no-long staying true to why the blog was started/fake-ness that seems to be prevailing on blogs and social media. You haven't bought in to that (neither has Deb on Smitten Kitchen), and that's why you still get my traffic, and my time. I love how real you are, and it totally inspires me to not give up when I try something, and it doesn't work. So, thank you!!!
As far as content suggestions, I actually really love when you post organization tips, etc. that are currently working for you and your family. I have followed you a long time, and from what I can gather, my three kids are similar in age to yours, so it really helps to have someone else's perspective on different things I can try to make our home routines go more smoothly. Sometimes, even a refresher post of "here's what we do and why" would be great. I would also LOVE some menu planning/organization ideas, (maybe even a recipe or two), and more tips on organizing breakfasts and lunches, particularly on crazy school days.
All-in-all, I think you are right on track, and I love how real and genuine you are.
-Mandy W.
