Bathroom Storage Furniture Favorites

Today I thought it would be fun to look at some fun furniture options for storing bathroom toiletries and linens; some are space saving and others are just plain ol' awesome!

I am pretty smitten with all the vanities that have space saving towel storage built right in at the bottom.  Such a pretty look and I am continuing to seek out a way to DIY one for our main bathroom:

Bookcases are a really inexpensive way to add bathroom storage.  Just find one from a big box store, slap on some crown molding, and you have something fabulous for all of your linens and bathroom accessories:

For those that are great at scouring Craigslist and flea markets and thrift stores for fabulous furniture finds, check out an old pharmacy cabinet {with a fresh coat of spray paint} or cabinets with character and glass door fronts.  Love!

For smaller bathrooms, there are quite a few space saving storage options that I have fallen head over heals for:

Like slim slanted wall shelves

And simple antique ladders...

Wall mounted bookcases:

IKEA always has space saving solutions, such as this slender Expedit:

How about using that valuable vertical real estate with some wall mounted baskets?

One of my favorite ideas is to just place a small chest of drawers in a bathroom.  Not only does it add storage, but gives the room a built over time feeling!

And one last photo just to drool over.  I am so gaga for the glass front cabinet and all of the colors!

Any other bathroom furniture favorites?

  2. Just curious how you would mount the baskets onto the wall. Ive been looking into doing something like that for our master bath, but I am not sure how to go about getting them up there. I love the clean look it gives. Any tips would be appreciated!

    1. Hi Jessica!

You could nail or screw right through the weave in the bottom, or find some strung hooks to hang them from?

It is such a smart solution for small spaces!

      xoxo,
      Jen

  4. I like to mount shelves over the door. No footprint but great storage!

P.s. My mom built her bathroom vanity out of an antique dresser. You can do it!

  9. Thank you Jen for this post! We just downsized into a smaller 1 bedroom apartment to help save up for a house after graduation and our bathroom has NO space! It doesn't help that it also doubles as a laundry room. Do you have any organization tips for bathroom closets and underneath sinks?

  10. Hi Jen, thank you for these wonderfully inspiring pictures, I LOVE the pharmacy and other glass door cabinets. I have one of those glass door HEMNES cabinets in my study and love it for my school books. I will do our bathroom next month, in the summer holidays, and have collected a few ideas already. I'm so excited. ;)

  11. Thanks for this great post! I am currently working on updating the storage in our master bath which has no linen closet. All of the pictures are fabulous, but as a pharmacist, I have to say I love the idea of painting and updating an old pharmacy cabinet! Now...where to find one?

  12. Hi Jen! You mentioned something I've been wanting to do: add crown moulding to an existing bookcase. I have three floor-to-ceiling bookcases from the 80s (mid-brown, rounded edges....very 80s) and I want to make them a bit more modern. How would you do the crown moulding, or do you have a tutorial of doing this already? Thanks and I love the bathroom ideas!

  14. Here are a few favorite bathroom storage pins -

Alas, I don't have pictures of the one that I did. I had a very small bathroom with NO room for any additional furniture and only a one-sink, single-door vanity where half the space was taken up by plumbing. However, behind the toilet/vanity wall, there was a walk-in closet that had enough room in the center of it to "spin around like Wonder Woman."

By moving the rods away from the wall (closer to the center of the closet, making it so that it was still walk-in but no room for Wonder Woman impersonations), I had enough room behind the rods to make 14" deep "medicine cabinets" -- one over the sink and one over the toilet.

Each cabinet was wide enough for tri-folded bath towels and I could fit 6 bath towels, 6 hand towels, 8 wash cloths and still had room for a few more things. The over-toilet cabinet had the towels.

The over-sink one had hardware so that shelves could be set at ANY height, the full 3'-height of the inner cabinet. Most shelves were set very close together (so that you wouldn't be able to access the stuff in the back). I had clear, acrylic trays that were almost the exact width and length of the shelf (by design). You could easily store nearly all of your toiletries, make-up, medications, etc. in these trays that simply slid out for easy access and the trays could be washed as needed. Just one shelf in this cabinet was set aside for tall bottles.

All of my neighbors with no bathroom storage were always amazed when another neighbor would say "Have you seen her bathroom? Lemme show you." LOL!

  15. I once used a dresser in the bathroom. Only two drawers, on atop the other, and just the right height to accommodate the sink by cutting an opening in the top. We painted it white Really worked well for many years.

  16. Oh my goodness, I loved ALL of these pins. Haha, I wanted to repin all of them. Thanks for the inspiration!

  17. I was drawn to the glass container in the first pic and immediately rounded up one in storage and filled it with SOME of the massive collection of handmade soap scraps we've acquired.

  18. Sadly, the IKEA shelf pictured is a LACK shelf, which is discontinued. You know, like they tend to do with all their popular items.... :-/

BUT, the EXPEDIT (albeit shorter in length, wider, and deeper) is a pretty good substitute. It just won't fit into such a tight spot as this one would have.

Sniff. Sniff. Sob. Sob. Guess who missed the LACK ones before they were discontinued??? :-(

I love all the pictures, Jennifer! Especially that aqua cabinet! And thanks for offering modern options along with traditional ones!
