I get asked a lot about where I find my inspiration, or where my crazy ideas come from. Well, typically, I sit and gaze at dreamy space, and then try my best to get creative and replicate them on my budget. Or take note of the space itself and ask, "What makes it so pleasing?" and "What makes it so functional?"
So I thought it would be loads of fun {what better way to spend a quiet Friday morning?}, to gather some of my favorite inspirational photos from each space in a home, to try and get those organizational gears spinning.
Individual cubbies for each person to stash their belongings would be so dreamy. Never loose hats, mittens, backpacks or a random shoe again because everything will have it's place!
For a more realistic sized entry, a pretty painted bookcase paired with pails is another great way to give every family member a "place" for their outdoor gear.
A divided tray is a great way to keep entryway clutter organized and easy to find when heading out the door in a jiff!
Clear storage is great for quick visual inventory! Tiered racks work wonders so nothing gets lost in the back of the cabinet! Same with a rotating lazy Susan, quickly give it a spin to find just what you are looking for!
Use the back of a cabinet door to keep menu planning and couponing clutter out of site.
Maximize storage by utilizing the back of cabinets with over the door organizers.
Never dig through a cold freezer again! Everything is corralled in a labeled basket for quick grab and go cooking!
Save precious counter real estate by keeping items in a knife block inside of a drawer.
Save your back by storing larger backing items and pots and pans inside a lazy Susan cabinet. Just spin and grab vs. digging through deep cabinets to get the pot from the way back!
Line drawers and use dividers to keep utensils from mixing and piling. Only keep the essentials and what you have room to store.
Pretty media boxes are a great way to keep any living room clutter at bay. No matter what is inside {photos, movies, small family games like cards and dice, etc...}, they always look tidy on a shelf!
I love the idea of keeping games right at a family room table, so you can just take one out and play right there, keeping the chances of losing pieces randomly around the house to a minimum.
Storage ottomans are also a family's best storage friend in the living room, since they can hide anything from small toys to gaming supplies, then close up and keep it all out of site and doubling as a foot rest or coffee table.
I love the addition of standard bookcases to a bath to hold everything from towels to toiletries and cleaning supplies to a basket of extra toilet paper.
I have always wanted to line the back of a medicine cabinet. How could you not just be happy each morning you opened it up and saw that? Love the clips for the toothbrushes and razor also!
I love the use of standard corbels as shelving dividers and again, you can't go wrong utilizing every door for extra storage!
Linens are bundled together and storage space is gained by adding simple wire shelves.
For me, laundry is one of my least favorite tasks. So if I am going to have to do it, I would love the space to be fun and colorful and organized!
Small bowls to empty pockets in and decorative containers for laundry soaps make it so much more pleasing to the eye!
A single cleaning caddy to tote around the house is much easier than keeping different cleaning supplies under every single sink or up on shelves.
With a utility closet as neat and pretty as this, I would be motivated to even keep my closets looking in tip top shape!
A nice pretty chair, paper sorters and organizers and even a hook for your handbag. No excuse not to be productive in this perfect place!
Expandable files are fantastic for receipts, coupons and larger ones are great for warranty/manuals and filing day to day paperwork.
Common kitchen items usually double as fantastic office supply storage. And binders are also a no fail way to keep household documents in orderly fashion.
Use mail trays to quickly sort mail throughout the week and set 15 minutes aside each weekend to go through each tray and get it ready for the next week.
Keeping a stationary holder on your desk will mean you will be more likely to send out a thank you or just let someone know you are thinking of them.
I love the little labels on the scrapbook paper sorters. Silly smart!
Proof once again that a door makes fantastic storage! Especially when space is limited!
Uniform storage boxes and clear containers are great for a combined office/craft space.
Lots of bedside storage!
Double hooks for belts and scarves!
Keep jewelry on display so it actually is worn.
Paint the insides of your closets so they look like a room. Use hangers that are uniform and only keep essential clothing pieces that can be mixed and matched to achieve endless looks.
Drawer dividers are great for socks, undergarments and belts!
Extend the life of pretty footwear by keeping shoes stored in clear shoe boxes.
A finished floor, storage cubbies and drawers, lots of wall storage and a counter work space. Oh my, it doesn't get better than this!
Heavy duty shelving paired with storage bins and hooks is a great way to remember to grab those green bags when going to the grocery store, and gives you a place to stock bulk items when you return!
OK, so if that doesn't inspire you, I really don't know what will. I haven't felt this inspired in awhile. Going room by room and seeing so many spaces that shine. All sorts of new ideas swimming. I am itching to go cover a box with pretty paper. And organize under the bathroom sink. And do some extra decluttering and simplifying. Any "Ah Ha" moments today?
How about you? Who's organizing this weekend? What organizing inspiration have you found, that you have already implemented and LOVE?

ReplyDeletegreat ideas!!you are very very good!!
ReplyDeleteLove this post Jen. I keep dreamy pics like these in a folder on my hard drive. Actually, I saw a few of them in your post. How funny is that? My absolute fave is the 1st pic of the mudroom. For about a year I've been planning to make my own mudroom out of my entryway for about a year now since I've always wanted one. I have to cross that off of my list this year. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy dream is to have a garage like that someday!!
ReplyDeleteIt's not silly at all! I love collecting dream home pictures :) A couple of them I thought were from your house! I was surprised to find out that they weren't.
ReplyDeleteLove love live this post!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find the picture of the family room table with drawers to store board games? Great idea!!!
ReplyDeleteI left a link at the end of the post... all of the photos are courtesy of BHG.com. Unfortunately, their site doesn't list any of the product resources either {like rugs, furniture, etc...}

Would you be willing to give source information for some of the photos, if they're from catalogs? I would love to find some of the items from the first entry/mudroom photo and first bathroom photo. Thanks for the inspiration!

Love the laundry room with the floor carpet tiles. I plan to do that in my laundry room this weekend! I have been wanting to re-do the floor in my laundry area but have put it off due to the cost of ceramic tile. I never thought of the carpet tiles. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI always want to "pin" everything from your posts! Today was no exception!
ReplyDelete:) Julie
And as I mentioned when I shared this post on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Custom-Excel-Spreadsheets/132714353478657), I really hope my blog will be as amazing as yours someday!

(Colleen) @ PaRtY of 5!
I am drooling and can not formulate an intelligent sentence right now. WOW.
ReplyDeleteOh to have an organized kitchen like that!
ReplyDeleteI pinned so many things from this one post, thank you so much Jen for the inspiration and I fianly had an aha moment about what I love so much about the images you share - it's the light. They all seem to be filled with colour and light love it!
ReplyDeleteJen ~ your blog just brings a smile to my face! You are such an inspiration! Please keep it up! I look forward to your posts every single day! :) Take Care!
ReplyDeleteBHG always has the BEST Organizing eye candy! :)
ReplyDeleteI can also get lost in browsing through home magazines in search of 'dream room' inspiration. The hobby was first sparked when my parents embarked on building a home when I was about 15. There was always a TON of magazines laying around as they were trying to make their own plans and decisions. I would put together whole dream house plans based on blue prints that I liked. :)
ohmygoooosh I'm most envious of the PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS in these photos. I wish I had enough light spilling into my home to get photos like this! or fancy lighting equipment and such. *pouting*
ReplyDeleteLoving the inspiration girly! <3 now i'm going to go cry over my window situation. lol
xoXOxo
Jenn @ Peas and Crayons
Love your ideas! However, this is suddenly making me feel like my house is chaotic & out of control in the organization department! :p Thanks so much! I found your site from Bower Power! Heidi Rew from PartiesforPennies.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWow, this is one of my favorite posts! Seriously, I just pinned 6 or 7 of those ideas for future use...love it!
ReplyDeleteI think I just died and went to storage heaven! I love it so much! :)
ReplyDeleteI am just dazzled at the mirror in front of the window. It's just awesome! Natural light for putting on make up. Definitely adding this to my requirements for future house projects. If not over the bathroom sink, at least I'll know where to position a vanity! LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteAlso, super inspired by the vacuum in the closet. I need a closet just that big.
Oh my goodness! I could eat out of that garage floor, so shiny and clean!! So much inspiration, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI am in LOVE! So many great ideas all in one spot. No wonder you call it the dream home.
ReplyDeleteI am having a great time today organizing photos into plain tan and black acid-free boxes. They are looking great on their shelves.
ReplyDeleteHow do organize extra keys?
ReplyDeleteOn her post for the "Mud-Room" she got a divided storage basket (almost JUST like the the kitchen drawer utensil holders in your kitchen!) and printed labels and glued them to pretty scrapbook paper. Look above for the mudroom storage and you'll see it! Hope I helped! Thanks and Have a Blessed Day!!
Deletethanks! I'm new to your blog and am so inspired!
ReplyDeleteThe decorating area over the door makes me swoon! Okay most of those make me swoon! Unfortunately the place where I keep my decorating supplies has a bifold door, so that wouldn't work. Thanks for all the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to move right into this *dream home* :)
ReplyDeleteA Cupcake for the Teacher
I have got to find that stationary holder! That is exactly what I am looking for to hang on the wall to organize bills and loose paper that comes into the house!
ReplyDeleteThey used to sell it at Target a couple of years ago, I have the matching stationary bins attached to the wall in our office closet. They are fantastic, but I haven't seen the same ones since. :( I will keep my eye out for similar options and share on the blog if I come across something.
Deletexoxo!
Jen
The double hooks for belts and scarves was a total Ah Ha moment for me. We've been using this tie/belt hanger thing that I hate for years. My hubby doesn't even wear ties anymore, so the belts make it hang all uneven. I don't know why I never though to just use a couple hooks for the belts. Thanks for helping me solve my problem :)
ReplyDeleteWe're thinking of building a home (something a little larger for our family of eight), and I love those mudroom cubbies! After your last post, we went to Target tonight and meandered through -- daydreaming! Thanks for all your hard work.
ReplyDeleteAs always, you have not failed to inspire me. I am organising 2 closets this weekend, in 2 separate bedrooms. They are decent size with sliding doors, but they need to WORK more efficiently.
ReplyDeleteI am organising 1 closet to make it work for 2 girls, one of which is about to start school for the first time, so I need to incorporate uniforms as well as find space for her outgrown clothes to store them for the little one.
I have hubby on board for setting up a "bag nook" for school bags and baby nappy (diaper) bag, using your new office bag hooks as inspiration. Thankyou! :)
Such beautifully organized spaces! So much eye candy! I LOVE the ideas for the bathroom & linen closets with the dividers and door storage. Great ideas for when I start Spring cleaning this year for some fresh new ideas of how to better beautifully organize various spaces of my home.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm working on planning/rearranging my kids' room again. I was really happy with how I designed it last year for my 2 preschoolers: http://heartandhaven.com/2011/06/24/kids-room-final-reveal/
However, now that I'm expecting again in March...I'm considering having all 3 lil' ones share a room and have our 3rd bedroom become a den/playroom (my oldest son graduates in June and will be going into the Air Force).
It will definitely be a challenge to figure out space planning for 3 kids in a small 10x10 room! I just bought an awesome dresser off craigslist that could be used as a baby dresser/changing table combo (multi-purpose pieces will be a definite MUST)
If you could find & post more inspiration pics of kids rooms (especially shared spaces with multiple kids) - that would be awesome!
WOW! You have been busy collecting dreamy images. I loved browsing through this post. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
ReplyDeleteFrom Alissa@look.find.inspire

ReplyDeleteOhmygoodness. I was practically squealing as I looked through those pictures!! AMAZING. Thank you! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! And I know you've done a post on where you've gotten all your wonderful kitchen pretties, but I am dying for your rainbow colored mixing bowls in your lazy susan! Pretty pretty please share the brand/where you got them!!! Thanks dear :)
ReplyDeleteYou can find the bowls on Crate an Barrel you can buy the set or separate ones ,also they are on sale right now!!!!!!
DeleteThank you so much! I've been looking forever for these! :)
DeleteI am soooooo doing those soups! I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of awesomeness to this. But let's be honest. Who lives like this. If I am taking time to fold my cotton underwear, it's time to reevaluate! :)
ReplyDeleteI discovered your blog this weekend and I've got to say, I'm already addicted!
ReplyDeleteVery inspiring, as usual!
ReplyDeleteI think this is the ultimate home tour of all! Can't wait to implement those ideas this month. Please keep doing what you're doing. YOu are helping tons of moms!

ReplyDeleteThis is a really fun idea. I may have to try it, too. I like a lot of your images, but I hope you'd alphabetize your movies in those cute containers! ;)

ReplyDeleteThis post makes me want to declutter and sort! Thank you for sharing so much inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it all!
ReplyDeleteWhere's a good place to get media boxes? Our movies are getting out of control!
LOVE it all!
ReplyDeleteWhere's a good place to get media boxes? Our movies are getting out of control!
I have found some great ones at Walmart in the office supply section. Otherwise, IKEA or The Container Store.

Jen
amazing post!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and I have been following for a while. I did the over the door gift wrapping center from BHG last year. You can find it here with all the links to the suppliers if you are interested:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nuestrasaventurasentexas.com/2011/02/easy-gift-wrapping-station.html
And the pics she has up on this post are all from Better Homes and Gardens (like she states) that's why they are SO great. They were done by professionals ;)
hi jen! i, too, love organized spaces and just found your blog! i will be using the back of the door storage idea on our bedroom closet - thank you for the idea! i love the organized freezer! have you seen any good ways to organize a freezer that's a big drawer (like at the bottom of a french door refrigerator such as this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+25.8+Cu.+Ft.+French+Door+Refrigerator+-+Stainless+Platinum/9499027.p;jsessionid=6191111554E24A66C7362A27F7632DB5.bbolsp-app03-23?id=1218127927512&skuId=9499027)? it does have one drawer within the large one, but the bottom has a lot of space where things like to get lost! thanks again for your inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Container Store sells wire freezer baskets that work well in a French door, drawer-style freezer: http://www.containerstore.com/shop/kitchen/refrigeratorFreezer?productId=10006650&N=74068&Nao=20. I used these in my Samsung French Door freezer and they have worked wonders!
DeleteHmmm... I don't have a freezer like that so I am unsure how to answer, however, I would imagine tall, narrow bins would be good for sorting out your veggies, fruits and other categories. Also, I have heard it's a great idea to freeze items flat in a large zipper bag and then once they are frozen, store them vertically to save space: http://www.flickr.com/photos/annabellespeaks/4302027717/
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Jen
Hey Jen!!!!! I enjoyed this post so very much. Do you happen to know where those clever shoes drawers are? I also LOVE the deep freeze idea, I am gonna use that! SO clever! :D (and cute!)
ReplyDeleteHi Megan!
DeleteI have seen them at the Container Store but they are crazy expensive. Love them, but costly.
xoxo!
Jen
Looking for the clips for the toothbrushes from the SUPER GREAT organized medicine cabinet ~ ideas?????? LOVE YOUR BLOG!

Wow. That. Was. Amazing. Pretty sure most of those made it to Pinterest...:) Any idea where the gift wrap hanging door organizer thingy could be found?
ReplyDeleteI think it's just an over the door pantry organizer that can be found at any home improvement store.

I was directed to your blog today through a friends "pin" on pinterest and I am HOOKED! I am curious about where you can get the wrapping paper/ribbon over the door organizer! That is brilliant. Actually everything in this whole blog is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteDiane
Thank you for all these great ideas with beautiful pictures! I pinned almost all of them today!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing. So many fabulous ideas. Stunning!! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteHere is a link to the container store products:

I had so much fun sitting down with this post and a cup of coffee, pinning away! I don't usually comment, but I couldn't help myself. I LOVE ALL of your posts, but this one....I thoroughly enjoyed and had to say thanks for all the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, I am in love with your blog, ideas and "ultimate dream home!" I, too, was looking everywhere for the toothbrush clips and finally figured out what they are--self-adhesive cable cord clips!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10027231&N=&Nao=40&Ntt=clip
I am so very impressed with these ideas! Goodness, m house could really benefit from some of these ideas! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteFound your blog on pinterest (shocker) and was wondering where I could find the over the door wrapping paper organizer. I can't tell if it was modified or if it's specifically made for wrapping paper. I appreciate your time and love this blog!!
ReplyDeleteCan you link all/most/some of the items used in these photos for organization? Would love to see ideas for the inside-cabinet and door mounts!
ReplyDeleteHi Robyn!
DeleteAll these photos were from BHG.com and they don't often source their products on their website... if there is something in particular you are looking for, I may know where to find it, I consider myself a pro shopper when it comes to organizing items, lol.
xoxo,
Jen
I love the coral shams in the bedroom, do you know where those are from?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Penny. Every photo is beautiful but ladies, let's appreciate those misplaced socks and muddy foot prints... if only because we {HEART} the little ones behind it all. Any woman who lived in that house would be envied, yes, but more importantly... very boring! Embrace your life, however messy:)
ReplyDeleteI completely agree it is a balance! I think it is just a matter of making systems that are simple to maintain and time savers so we can spend time with those we love.
Deletexoxo!
Jen
o wow this is amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful ideas here I definitely will be doing some of them!
ReplyDeleteWow this home IS a DREAM!! I'm going to go clean up right now. Thanks for sharing :-)
ReplyDeletei clearly have a very looooong way to go!
ReplyDeleteI love the coffee table with drawers! Another great way to store belts/scarves/ties without pulling them all off to get to the one in the back is with shower curtain rings on a regular clothes hanger :)
ReplyDeleteI love all these things. Especially the tray for the keys and wallet. I am so doing that in my next house (moving soon) and I'm going to be super organized.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Why can't my house look like that? No matter how hard I try. But I just started reading your blog, so maybe in a little while... :)
ReplyDeleteEverything is absolutely perfect. Wonderful ideas in a so much useful blog. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing..I was wondering where you got that over the door cabinet storage(wired).I have been looking for that kind for long time.
ReplyDeleteYou motivate me ha. Everything looks so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThis was so much fun! I love the selection and it's truly a dream home! My favorites are the mudroom and kitchen!
ReplyDeleteWhere can I get the over the door organizers for the cabinet storage? I NEED.
ReplyDeleteWow! This site is awesome! I am so encouraged and excited to get started. Thank you so much!!
ReplyDeleteI am drooling over this blog! You are wonderful! I am moving soon, and I am going to use a lot of your pics/posts for inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWow this is a dream house if it existed. Can't wait to have an organized house...just need to get some paint on the walls first!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful spaces!! Just stumbled into this and love it!!
ReplyDeleteSuch awesome storage ideas! cause clutter just attracts more clutter.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Lots of great ideas, but all I see when I look at these pictures is $$$$$ for all the *things* I'd have to buy in order to organize my house!
ReplyDeleteFor those of you wondering about the toothbrush clips, I think I found something similar. They are self-adhesive cable holders meant for holding cords, etc. I found some at the container store for 9.99 (package of 6). They also have similar items on amazon. It looks like it would hold a tootbrush without it falling through but I haven't tried it out yet.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.containerstore.com/shop/office/cordControl?productId=10027231
Love, LOVE, LOOOVVVE!!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate this post - it would be helpful if you could identify where you found/purchased organizing items like separators, lazy susan, etc. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI found your blog on pintres and i love it. It motivate me and inspire. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteyou are an inspiration
ReplyDeleteI was just wanting to learn more about organizing my home. I'm finishing graduate school, moving out on my own, and normally very disorganized. This post gave me so many ideas to hopefully change that!
ReplyDeleteI've been browsing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be a lot more useful than ever before.

I love this post. One thing we do to save space in our living room is to put all of our DVD's into a cd book. There's no need to keep the plastic cases where we need the space. We do save them in a container in our attic in case we ever decide to yard sale some of the movies off.
ReplyDeleteI can see from the many other comments that I am not the only person absolutely thrilled by this blog. I thought I was a little weird for always getting so excited about organizing, but I guess I'm not alone! I seriously never comment on blogs but I just love your ideas so much I couldn't resist. I've only been reading your posts for the last few weeks but I have already used several of your suggestions and managed to utilize space I didn't even know I had. Keep the ideas coming....they are very appreciated!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog-- love it! Quick question, do you know where I can find the basic white bookshelves you featured in the bathroom? Or anything similar? Thanks so much! Now which project should I attempt...
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! Do you know where the garage metal storage cabinets came from? I want to organize our garage very soon and need storage (something with doors). I like that these are not plastic but metal. Thanks you!! :)
ReplyDeleteHi. Great post! I love organizing too. I am in the beginning process of organizing all of my closets, including my pantry. I was curious, do you know of a good way to store/organize bread items(sandwich bread, hamburger buns, etc.) in a pantry?
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
Love your blog! Question: I have been looking for a small desk for my room, and I really like the one you have pictured under Home Office/Crafts (first photo). Do you-or anyone- know what type of desk it is? And any suggestions of where I can find one? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'd the chair cover on the desk chair a BHG picture or something you made? I'd like to track down a sewing pattern for it!
ReplyDeleteThanks:)

Is there a certain area of the house where you would start first if I needed to buy a little at a time? Do you recommend any discount places to buy your organization tools? Thank you so much!!!

These photos are from Better Homes & Gardens, as Jen states. They rarely post sources, which is really annoying. I love that basket too!
