41 Tray Bien {part 2}

Last weekend I was puruising through my local Goodwill looking for hidden goodies, and I stumbled across a picture frame that had great character {and it was only $2!!}

You can probably guess from the backdrop, that it was about to get a coat of paint!

I originally planned to place a photo of my precious little heroes inside, but then a new idea struck me...

Now we all may have our own bag of secrets, but there is definitely one secret that I have not hid, and that's my love for white vases and trays.  And I absolutely do not have enough trays.  So why not create a little tray to corral my bathroom goodies instead?  Great plan!

I just popped the frame stand off of the back...

Stuck a pretty piece of decorative scrapbook paper inside, and it became my new bathroom tray!

I am really excited about how it turned out!  It is the perfect landing pad for my hair clips and jewelry to ensure nothing goes missing... and keeps all my daily essentials at my finger tips!

And I am seriously so smitten with the pattern and detailing around the edges!  It's just lovely!

And that's one easy peasy 10 minute organizing project that I absolutely can live with!  I love how easy it was and impactful it was at the same time!  And I also adore that I can always replace the paper with a cute picture and use it as a tray somewhere else {like my nightstand?}, or hang it on the wall with a pretty ribbon.  Such a versatile piece!

So who's with me?  Anyone purchase something with one intention and then completely change it's path once you got it home?  What else are you using frames for, besides frames?  Or what other objects are your re-purposing into a tray?  Any thrift store scores for you recently?

  1. So, so pretty. I'm definitely making use of this idea as I've been looking for a pretty tray to put on my dresser and haven't found ANYTHING I like.

  2. Love how the tray turned out!! I'm gonna have to try this project. I love how putting groupings on a tray instantly makes them look less like clutter.

    What do you keep in the pretty teal bottle? I have a bottle like that from IKEA that came with a bathroom set but I'm at a loss as to what to use it for.

    The blue bottle is actually my mouthwash! :) Much prettier than the packaged bottle!

  7. Oh man! Awesome! My mom used to have so many of those old metal scrolled frames =)

    Love the mouth wash tip, never thought of that.

    And I asked in a previous post and didn't see an answer... sorry if I missed it, but where did you get your white charging station?

  9. Sorry, I may have missed the charging station question - I have a couple, however, our main one which is the most substantial, is from Pottery Barn: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/bedford-smart-technology-recharge-station/?pkey=e|station|3|best|0|1|24||1&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules-_-

    One I made: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/2011/01/taking-charge.html

    And one is from Target: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/2010/09/got-15-no-nonsense-nightstand.html

  17. Love the look. I think I might have to do this in my bathroom as well. And I love the idea for your mouth wash. I might steel that idea too. I hate the big bottle the mouth wash comes in. Now I just have to find a nice bottle.

    Jen where did you get the bottle for the mouth wash?

  20. Score. That is PERFECT for you. I'm in need of the exact same size tray for my bathroom, I kid you not, in the exact same spot. I'm hopeful about finding one now that garage season has started.

  21. Girl, I bought one just like this--except mine has a mirror in the middle. I plan on using is exactly as you have in the bathroom. I plan on painting the "frame" white and then using it for all my eye glasses (I have 7 pairs). Love it!

    I've been debating whether or not to paint the tray next. I just might do it after seeing this.

  28. Another idea is to find a larger frame and use special pain that can be used as a chalk board and then the inside becomes a chalkboard with a really cool frame. I am searching for a great frame now to use this idea. We have a 70's pinball machine and my daughters like to keep track of their high scores. I though it would look awesome!

  30. Actually, YES! I bought a decorative star wall hanging with intentions of well, hanging it on the wall. But I had no clue WHERE. Then I got home and looked at my walls. I found the PERFECT spot but there was a wall sconce in the way. So, I took off the sconce cover, and the star fits RIGHT ON IT! It looks fantastic, and it doesn't get hot at all while the light is on! I actually have a scheduled blog post on the 21st where I talk about it.

  32. You could also put a thin magnetic sheet behind the scrapbook paper and make a magnetic tray out of it, for hair pins, earrings and such.

  34. I've followed your blog for a while now, and this has to be one of my favorite DIYs! I included it in a blog post I did collecting tons of home decor DIY ideas :) Can't wait to try this!
