53 IHeart: A Parade of Homes!

One of my blogging BFF's, Toni, from the incredibly inspirational A Bowl Full of Lemons, is hosting a Parade of Homes.  I can't begin to shout out how excited I am about such an incredible event full of insane amounts of inspiration!

I am so honored to be part of such an incredible blog party and incredibly grateful you are here to take a peek at our abode.  So without further ado, welcome!

Our ranch home was built almost 10 years ago in 2001.  Everything was done very basic low cost, and we have slowly been chipping away at it since we moved in.

We lack an entry and truly pop right into our living area when you walk through the front door:

The bookcases were a recent project to house our television components and games and books.  It was created by taking stock bookcases from Ikea, and piecing them together to create a "built-in" feeling.

To the right of the front door is a shoe cabinet to keep all that footwear at bay:

And if you gaze to the left, you will see my most favorite wall in our home... my gallery wall filled with my smiling little kidlets!!

Any area of the home that contains photos of my family, are truly my happy places!

This living room truly represents my style.  Bright, fresh and cheerful.

I also pop a laptop at a console table to create a workspace where I can still be near my family!  It works just perfectly!

Moving from the living room right to the kitchen...

The kitchen is fairly open to the living room, which makes for great flow and conversation!  The only updates we have made to this heart of the home is painting the oak cabinetry, but many more plans lay in the future of this room!

The garage entry comes right into the kitchen, so it was important to install a command station and hooks to corral all those things that come with entering the home from sports and school days:

Across the kitchen in the eating area, we added a buffet table to house all of our appliances and a shelving system to hold our wine glasses and offer a decorative display space:

Leading down the hall, the first door on the right is a small bathroom that our little men share:

Our towel box was made from lumbar scraps, scrapbook chipboard letters and paint:

Further down the hall is our oldest son's bedroom.

The desk was built into this closet to provide ample homework and puzzle doing space!  He just loves this little zone and we couldn't be happier that it provided that little extra motivation to dig into his studies each night!

Right next door is a bedroom that is now shared by two brothers...

This month, both of the kiddo's bedrooms are getting many fun updates, so stay tuned for those, however, for now, they are still great places for our little munchkins to rest their heads!

And across the hall is mom's and dad's master bedroom!

The intent was to create a cozy and restful retreat to get away from it all.  And that it does.  The sunburst mirror was created from poster-board and a closet workspace was added to this space as well, to create the perfect zone for journaling and crafting and giving mom a place to take a moment to herself!

That completes the tour of our main level, and currently the only finished space in our lower level is our fun and colorful laundry room!

So although that completes the tour, I hope you stick around awhile and make yourself at home!  I am so grateful to have you today!  Thanks for stopping by!

Next on the Parade of Homes tour is such a gorgeous home!  Seriously, wait til you see it, you will be inspired beyond belief...  I am proud to present the home tour of La Famille.

And if you want to head back to the beginning of the incredible Parade of Homes tour, you can head back to A Bowl Full of Lemons to tour Toni's lovely abode!

Thanks again everyone and have the most lovely day!

  13. Hi Jen,

I have so enjoyed your blog since I found it a few months ago- especially all the pretty colors!

I have a question though. It is VERY hard to believe that you have three boys, because based on what I see in your pictures, everything is in its place! I am a mom to 4 little girls, and though all of their life I've tried my best to teach them good habits, they are huge mess makers. It doesn't matter how much I eliminate the stuff itself, inevitably they will find a way to destroy a room. I do admit to slacking some after the last baby was born, but still, they are now 8, 7, 4 and 1.5 years old. We even built in a large desk area with shelves for homework and art, and it was a nightmare. I had to take all the crayons etc. and papers out of there because it was a horrible mess all of the time.

I think the main culprit is the little one- she can climb and enjoys throwing papers and crayons :) But my oldest daughter is also developmentally delayed and she can make a mess as well. The thing that bothers me the most though, is if I put decorative items out, like on their shelves, bathroom etc. , they tend to play with them and not leave them alone.

So how have you taught your boys to leave mama's stuff alone(the decorative parts) and actually use the organizing methods you have in your home? I won't mention that my husband needs organizing....LOL :)

  18. Your home is beautiful! Everything is so neat and organized (which of course I expected, but still...).

How do you get your children to keep their rooms so neatly picked up? And also, I love the closet/desk idea, but where do you keep hanging clothes? We live in a 1960's ranch home with small closets and I'd love to do something like that in our master closet but also need hanging clothes storage and don't have spare space in another room to use for hanging, either.

  19. LOVE EVERYTHING!! I'm copying so many great ideas from you. Where did you find the 9 photo frames on your gallery wall in your living room? Anywhere cheaper than $30 ea. at Target?

  23. Hi Jen -- I am a big fan. Your house is lovely. I noticed that you have the pottery barn organization system in your kitchen/entry way and I'm wondering if you can tell me how deep the wall pocket letter holder pieces are (the ones on the ends, not the middle piece). The PB web page gives only the height and length. Thank you!!

  37. I HAVE to know where you got the red/orange airplane hanging in your son's room. I would love to have something similar!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. @amy lou

The airplane was a Pottery Barn kid's clearance find awhile back. I would keep your eyes pealed there, they frequently have airplane room decor and it typically goes on clearance for more reasonable prices.

    Thanks so much!

  39. Where did you get that buffet?? I have to have it!

    Laura

  40. Hi Laura!

The buffet is from HomeDecorators.com. They don't have the same one any longer, however, if you ever find one you love, just remember it's ok to switch out the hardware to make it your own, like we did. Made all the difference. Best of luck in your search!

    Jen

  41. I love the shelves and buffet! Where did you get the shelving? Did the wine glass holders come attached, or did you attach them yourself?

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Anonymous,

The shelves are LACK shelves from Ikea and the wine glass holders are from Amazon.com. Those details are here: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/2010/10/october-featured-space-kitchen_07.html

    Thank you!

  45. Can you tell me where you got the organizer for your entry from the garage to the kitchen? it is EXACTLY what I am looking for, for that same space. I don't even know what to call it when I search for it online. You have your keys and paper drop stations...

    1. Hi there!

It is from Pottery Barn: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/daily-system-white/?pkey=e|white%2Bdaily%2Bsystem|1|best|0|1|24||1&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules-_-

I have since found similar, less expensive options at Target and Bed Bath & Beyond.

    1. Hi Jessica!

The white mail station is from Pottery Barn: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/daily-system-white/?pkey=e|white%2Bdaily%2Bsystem|1|best|0|1|24||1&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules-_-

The cups in the closet are from IKEA, but they have since been discontinued.

  47. Did you use a stencil for the clothespins in the laundry or are they vinyl decals? Where did you find them?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hello! They were vinyl and I found them on Etsy years ago. I am guessing there still may be sellers that offer something similar.

      xo!
