19 IHeart Easy Table Decor: Frosted Vases

Yesterday when I showed my super easy table setting idea, you may have also noticed another fun piece in the background...

Those super sweet candle holders weren't always so sweet....

That's right, I started out with three plain glass vases, found at the dollar store for $1 each.

I used my Silhouette to cut out some 12 x 12 pieces of cardstock in a fun pattern.  You can also find cutout paper in craft stores or you could go at it with scissors, just like you would if you were making a snowflake.  Paper doilies work too!

Then, I just wrapped the cutout paper around the vase and affixed it with a small dab of hot glue.

I could have just let them be at this point, they already went from drab to fab!

I wanted to take things one step further though, just to add a little extra special touch.  I snagged some glass frosting spray:

And followed the directions on the side of the can, giving the vases two light coats of the spray, waiting about an hour in-between coats.

I decided to leave the paper on the vases with the frosted glass... I really adore the look!

In fact, I made them for the Thanksgiving table, but now they remain as my every day table pieces!

I had so much fun dollar store decorating this year!

So what do you think?  Anyone else experimenting with glass frosting spray lately?  How about any DIY candle displays that are sticking around for good?

  1. ooh, love this idea and your pinecone napkin rings. I'm a totally amateur crafter, but I experimented with candles this weekend too and found a really simple keeper - if you are interested I posted it here: http://denimanddandelions.blogspot.com/2011/11/makeover-it-starts-with-candle.html#comment-form

  2. Wow, those vases turned out beautifully!

I just up-cycled some old Christmas candles that were not very pretty and some plain candles for Christmas... I used wintery papers though so they could stay all winter!

  3. Oh, and I love your blog and great ideas. Thank you for sharing your brilliant, creative brain!

  4. This is such a beautiful idea Jen! You're so creative!

  5. You're on a ball Jen, I mean seriously I don't know which Jen I admire more...the organized Jen or the decorating diva Jen:)

  6. These are so cool! I haven't used frosting spray, but I may need to pick up a can. I really like this idea.

  7. Really cute! I love them frosted, just a great idea(:

  8. So fun! Now I need to invest in some frosting spray. The possibilities seem endless...

  9. I love dollar store decorating, too, and the frosted glass candle holder is a terrific idea. I would imagine that you could do quite a few candle holders with one can of frosted glass spray? I haven't used it before - is it permanent?

  10. Those are so lovely! I love the pattern and the soft, frosted look.

  11. Oh my gosh I love these!! I haven't tried the frost spray, but have been experimenting with acrylic paint on glass lately.... although I need to learn how to steady my hand better!

    Great idea!

  12. Where did you get that table runner? It's exactly what I have been look for?? Great project!

  13. @Kelly -

I found it eons ago on clearance from Pottery Barn, but it looks like this one from Target is almost identical: http://www.target.com/p/Ramie-Table-Runner-Natural/-/A-11053266

  14. I love these! I may have to do something like this as gift ideas! Nobody would guess they were so inexpensive! Thanks!

  15. Ooo I have to go to the dollar store tomorrow to pick up some pictures frames for another project. May need to add this to the to do list.

  16. Sensible stuff, I look forward to reading more.

  17. Hi dear!! Do mind explainng on how you made that siloutte .. I'm so much in love with these vases but have no idea on how u did it .. Thank you

    1. Hello! I used my Silhouette CAMEO craft machine to cut out the paper. I have also seen pre-cut paper at craft stores.
