33 A Little Desk Update that Made a Huge Difference

You get a surprise post tonight because I am about to post a giveaway that gives you a peek at my desk space, and you very observant friends would have spotted the super awesome difference.  It is very deserving of it's own post, you just get it earlier than later {it was originally scheduled for later this week so hurray for sneak peeks!}

That's right, my desk got some lovin'.  If you recall, I designed it so I could swap out the fabric, decorative paper, etc... from under the plexi, to give the desk a versatile look.  Well, it didn't take long for me to realize that as much as I LOVED LOVED the original fabric I had used...

...that I crushed on the Hedge Fabric in Seaglass I found on Joss & Main even more.  So, I took the plunge and purchased my very first item from Joss & Main {and instantly felt part of a super chic club}, and couldn't be happier with my little splurge.

{This picture also shows the huge difference in lighting the pendant switch made for the space}.  You will also see that the gray chair didn't stay.  It was not at all comfortable and began to lose form so I popped it in my oldest boy's bedroom and am back on the hunt for a super comfortable {a.k.a. the PERFECT mix of pretty and comfortable} desk chair....

But back to the oh so lovely fabric.  Here is another before:

 And swoon worthy after:

Not that the before was even bad, but the cheerful colors of the new fabric are right up my ally and really make me smile each moment I am working away!

Have I mentioned how much I adore the versatility I have with this desk space?  Oh, the difference some fabric makes!

Anyone else making some fabric switcharoos?  Don't you just love how something so simple can change the whole feeling of a room?

  2. I have a pair of timber armchairs with a fabric seat that takes less than 10 minutes to re-upholster. They are my absolute favorites because I can change the look of the living room in a second. Love the change you've made - those gorgeous new colours are perfect! xx

    1. Actually, it's the perfect project for me because there is ZERO sewing involved. :) I just used my iron to press a clean edge and tucked the fabric under the plexi. Easy peasy! :)

  7. I love love love your desk and if they ever finish building the ikea, I'm going to have to find someone who can help me put together a desk like yours. I like the new fabric you chose too.

  8. Yep, the new fabric is so pretty and cheerful! Love it, too. And, because you're on the hunt for a new desk chair, I would highly recommend Ikea's Snille chair. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79877709/ The molded seat is comfy and you can have either the roller base or legs. I love mine, it's under 30 bucks, and comes in fun colors!

  9. I like the addition of blue to your binders and accessories. I have to admit, I probably wouldn't have picked the original fabric (too angular or something) but I have had my eye on some fabric at the fabric store that is similar to your new fabric! I have a my own scraproom that I haven't personalized yet and I need to recover my super-itchy, pilly old office chair with something that is more cheery and creative! I just may need to go do this now that I see what a difference it makes in a workspace!

  14. Check out the Container Store - they have a bungee office chair that is very comfortable. I saw one at a quilt retreat, tried it out and stopped by a store on my way home. I like the fact that it is on wheels and is a swivel chair, so it is easier for me to get away from the desk.

  15. Did you get the plexi custom cut for your desk? I was considering a piece of glass, but plexi is probably better.
    Love that fabric!

    1. Thank you! I did have it cut at my local Ace Home Improvement store. We live in an itty bitty town, so I am guessing most home improvement stores offer this?

    Big fan!
Your desk suite totally inspired me, and didnt take me long to adopt the idea and roll in out in my own office!
    Crown moulding and all!
I found a gorgeous comfy chair from Pier 1 imports called the "Parsons Chair" and Pier 1 also sells slipcovers for it too!
They're always coming out with new slipcovers - I got this one in particular for my chair! :)

  22. I can not put my finger on it at all where I've seen the chair in the new fabric reveal photo (not the upholstered chair) ... so I have to ask, where you purchased it from? I'm looking for some chairs for my kitchen table, and these look so lovely and simple! How would they be for a kitchen table?

    1. Hi Amanda!

They are these stacking chairs from Target: http://www.target.com/p/Modern-Stacking-Chair-White-Set-of-2/-/A-11240325

I found them for half that price in the store about a year ago on clearance. Not sure if they still stock them there or not.

I had them at my table for awhile. I like them but they definitely aren't the highest quality chair...

      xoxo!
