15 Let's Chat: Spring Cleaning!

Cleaning. I know, I know! Some of you are like me and actually enjoy it, and the other 98% of you would rather be doing anything else. I get a lot of feedback that cleaning is always a good topic. Tips, tricks, tools, even just seeing me clean or showing a clean space is enough to motivate some of you. I get it! I find my motivation to be visual as well! And I really want to put together a few cleaning specific posts because do you know what time of the year it is? SPRING CLEANING TIME!

And it got me thinking. What does "Spring Cleaning" mean to you?

As I was putting together ideas for upcoming cleaning posts, I realized it most likely means something different to everyone! In fact, for me it can mean something entirely different each year.

At the same time, there are a few things I find myself doing every year around the months of March and April. Sorting papers (thanks to taxes), swapping out winter gear and linens for spring items, cleaning the yard...

I find if we are really good about keeping up on our weekly and monthly cleaning tasks all year long, then I don't have a lot of extra cleaning to do in the spring. It allows for me to dive deeper into those odd cleaning jobs or forgotten nooks and crannies. But as ideal as that is, that isn't always the case.

But enough about me. I still plan to share some of my favorite tips and tricks and tools, but before I start putting together too many posts on the subject, I wanted to hear from you!

( you may need to scroll down to see and answer all of the questions )

Thank you so much for taking a couple of minutes to fill out the survey above! It will definitely lend me a helping hand as I put together some cleaning content over the next couple of days and weeks. I will also be sure to share the results with you all as we kick off the cleaning posts.

On another note, we are completely snow-less as I type this! And the sun is also trying really hard to make an appearance today. Weather is Wisconsin is always weird this time of year, you really never know what to expect. But it really does play into what we can do and when, and no snow is a huge indicator for me to get out those cleaning gloves asap!

I love to talk about all things cleaning and when I share with you, you tend to teach me something new as well. Feel free to add additional survey thoughts below, or just any general Spring Cleaning chit-chat!

  1. Side note, how did I miss you are from Wisconsin?! So am I! This winter has been incredibly strange! So much sickness floating around up here (centralish Wisconsin) and I truly believe it's because it hasn't gotten cold enough to kill the germs!

    1. Hi neighbor! I agree, the sickness this year has been unlike any other we have experienced. Especially at the elementary level. We just recovered from 12 days of strep and influenza awfulness and I couldn't be more ready for fresh air, a clean house and spring!

  2. It was a proper spring weather here today, in London. So I started my spring cleaning :) Nothing makes me happier than a good declutter x

  5. I used to spring clean - taking everything out of the cupboards and washing them down, possibly washing dishes that haven't been used for a while, going room to room to deep clean. I now just wash and deep clean as needed. I guess now spring cleaning is washing windows and moving furniture when I vacuum and maybe hitting baseboards with more purpose. With just two of us with no pets now, things tend to stay cleaner than they used to! Bonus of an empty nest. That being said I do have little finger prints on my front window from our granddaughter. I love to leave those for a while just to remind me of her - until they start to bug me, then I wash them off :-)

  8. Always look forward to your cleaning posts. Seems there is always something I can learn or do differently to make it easier. I do NOT like to clean but it needs to get done and as long as I'm doing it, I want to make sure it's really clean and I'm using my time efficiently. There is nothing better than sitting down to relax in a sparkling, shiny, clean house.

    1. Hi! I use a lot of Young Living products and for my mirrors and windows I use their Thieves Household Cleaner. I take a capful and put it in a 16 oz spray bottle, fill it with water, then shake before each use. I use this on pretty much everything!!

    2. Hi Jane -
I posted about cleaning windows here: http://www.iheartorganizing.com/2014/03/monthly-clean-home-challenge-wash.html. I am still a fan of using either just distilled water or distilled water with a little vinegar paired with a glass specific rag, they always come out streak free! This also works great on any chrome hardware I have throughout our home as well. :)

  10. I hate cleaning too. But this past year I took Marie Kondo's advice and completely decluttered my home from top to bottom. Now cleaning is a lot easier. And your tips will go a lot further now :)

My mom and I have used the cold weather outside as an excuse to get some stuff done inside. Last week we were cleaning over at her house and this week over at mine. We set a timer for an hour a day and only do as much as we can during that hour. The cleaning goes a lot faster and is more fun when you have some company :)
