39 Thirteen82 Chronicles: Guest Bedroom Reveal!

Finally right?  I have been asked on Facebook and through comments, "When do we get another Thirteen82 update!?".  And many apologies to you all!  Not only does a room update take time, but summer totally got the best of me and I didn't make it over to Em's lovely home to shoot after pics until just yesterday!

It is fun to see how the seasons have changed since we began planning the room update months ago...

We last left off sharing some sneak peak lighting updates and the progress of turning the $5 habitat door into a headboard.

Emily and her hubs put a lot of love into the space, and after oodles of spray painting, thrifting, sewing, collecting and more painting, we are excited to say the room is finished!! {Although we still get to tackle the bathroom}.  I had such a fun time partnering with Emily on this project, and to see it in the flesh all pulled together was so rewarding.  She and her Mr. did a really fantastic job with all of their projects and I hope that they {and their guests!} will love the room for many years to come!

But enough chit chat.  Should we take a look at the final "after" photos?

First, let's look back at how the room began, a total blank slate!

The bedroom has two entrances, one through the hallway bathroom, and another straight off the hall.  Here is the view through the bath before...

The goal was to make a statement when you peek through.  And I believe that was accomplished!

Soooo pretty!

The name of the game was simple and serene.  Emily and her family love heading up north to their cabin, and being by the water.  She loves a home that is collected over time and that feels sweet and cozy.

Isn't that headboard craaaazy amazing?  It started out as a $5 door from the Habitat Restore.  Lots of stripping, some decorative crown molding and pretty Slate Teal paint from Benjamin Moore, and it looks incredible!

The frames were Ribba from IKEA and the maps were $1 each from our trip to Junk Bonanza.

The lovely side table was gifted from her grandfather's home, as were the books.  The glass orb was picked up in a thrift shop on Sanibel Island for $3.

Another treasure from her grandpa's home, was the old globe that sits smiling in the corner of the room.  The white window panels were hung high and some pretty fabric was added to the bottom to add length.

We popped the driftwood on the wall as a way to fill the empty space between the window and the door.  I love the simple effect.  The driftwood had been sitting in Emily's garage waiting for the perfect place to call home, she had collected it from a trip to Michigan last year.

In the other corner of the room, Emily was able to score an old AV cart and give it a fresh coat of spray paint in Rustoleum's Eden green.  It is the same color as the sprayed light fixture hanging above the bed.

When Emily and I were chatting and brainstorming about things that would make the guest room complete, she was really interested in adding a luggage rack for her guests.  Little did we know we would find the perfect one, again at Junk Bonanza, for $5!

I piled it high with cozy old quilts for soon to be cold winter nights!

Emily used this tutorial from MiniManor Blog, to sew throw pillows out of left over curtains from college and a drop cloth!

The state pillow is one of my favorite details in the room.  Emily sewed together a few pieces of scrap fabric, cut out Wisconsin and sewed it to the front of her pillow.  So darling!

Across from the bed, in between the two doors, sits an oar that was given numbers that have special meaning to Em and her man.

And that is the story of a room that could.  With a lot of love, the room is now full of items that have character and special meaning.  A mixture of old and new...

Make for a very happy ending!

15 Thirteen82 Chronicles: Some Project Sneak Peeks!

Since I haven't made it over to Emily's lovely abode in awhile to snag photos of all the great progress she is making on her Thirteen82 Chronicles spaces, I asked her to pop in today with an update.  She has been working hard on her guest bedroom and bathroom in her spare time, and I am giddy excited about all of the great things happening!  Here she is now!

Hi everyone, this is Emily, Jen's Assistant and the owner of the Thirteen82 house!  We've have had a few people checking in with us to see how things are going with the Thirteen82 Chronicles bedroom and bathroom. So, I'm here to give you a quick update! {To catch up on the Thirteen82 Chronicles, you can find the intro here, the color scheme here and the fabric choices here}

While progress is being made, the changes are definitely being made in "real-time".  One of the things that I love about design blogs are their before and afters.  It's amazing to scroll down the page and see a drab room completely transform into something fab.  But in the back of my mind, I've always wondered how long it takes to actually complete a beautiful "after" photo. I've been finding out first hand over the past few months that there is a lot of sweat, shopping, time and sometimes a bit of coercing to create an amazing room.  Add on the chores of everyday life and my hope to get things wrapped up by the end of April flew right out the window!

I was able to paint the bedroom walls during an extra long nap one weekend which made the room feel so clean and fresh {Argos Gray from Sherwin Williams}:

The new color is similar to the previous color but oh what a difference fresh paint made!  All of the dirt and smudges that had accumulated over the years are gone!  Last week, I snuck in a quick painting session while my little guy was at daycare so I'm happy to report that the bathroom is completely painted now too!

Using simple white curtains from Target, I added a punch of color along with extra length using one of the super fab fabrics that you all picked out.

{Stripes, Ellis, Chipper}

This is the first room of our house that we've added curtains to and let me tell you, I was shocked at what a difference it made!  We have 8 foot ceilings so after a little bit of research, I decided to hang the curtain rod 3 inches from the ceiling.  It makes the room look so much bigger than it is and the white of the curtains has really brightened up the space.

Aside from the paint and curtains, we also installed a new overhead light.  Jen suggested this one from Home Depot.

Painting this light fixture was easy peasy... {spray paint color is Rustoleum's Eden}, installing it...well let's just say it was rough. The ceiling plate screws were too short, the caps for the end of the screws were too little and my husband/assistant was unamused with all the unexpected turns this "quick" project was taking.  After digging through our stash of extra hardware, we were finally able to wrap things up!  I'm loving how much light this fixture throws off onto the bed.  Plus the green color looks amazing against the gray walls.  I'm excited to see how it looks against the headboard when we get it installed.

Speaking of headboard, if you follow along on Facebook, you may remember we scored an old door from the Habitat Restore for $5!

Lots of elbow grease scraping all of the paint off of the old door:

After the paint was removed, we sanded it down and sprayed it clean with an air compressor:

Now we have a great blank slate to play with!  I am excited about what we have up our sleeves!

Jen and I have a lot more projects in the works, some have been started, some are almost finished and some are still ideas on paper. We can't wait to share everything as it unfolds! Here is our tentative "To Do" list:
  • Paint the bedroom and bathroom walls
  • DIY bathroom light fixtures
  • Paint and hang overhead light
  • Headboard
  • Decide on and hang art
  • Update bathroom mirror
  • Hang shower curtain
  • Find a fabulous vintage luggage rack
  • Add length to curtains and hang
  • Sew pillow covers
  • Accessories, Accessories, Accessories
  • Side table
  • Paint bathroom vanity

Thanks so much for the update Emily!  We have a lot of fun ideas planned for this space, I can't wait to see how it all pulls together in the end!  Emily and her hubs have been doing such a great job painting, sewing, spray painting and installing, I am so grateful she was able to take a moment to share her progress with us!

384 Thirteen82 Chronicles: Lets Play with Pattern!

Welcome back to the third edition of the Thirteen82 Chronicles!

You have selected the colors and we are scheduling a "paint day", and we couldn't be more excited to keep moving forward with making selections for Emily's new guest bedroom and bathroom space!

Here is what you have selected so far:

Emily and I have been scouring the web for some inspiration photos to give you all a better idea of our "scheme" of things.

These were some favorites:

I am really excited because Emily is all about playing with color and pattern in this soon to be super cozy space.  And today, you get to help us select a combo of fabric choices that we will use for the window treatments and throw pillows {or any re-upholstery projects}.

I combined the color pallet into an easier to visualize format...

The walls will be the neutral colors, the vibrant colors will be brought in through the accessories.

Who's ready to vote on fabric?  Here are some of our favs {yes, we really love the Gray Chipper Fabric}:

{all fabrics found at fabric.com}

Leave a comment on this post with which number you would love to see in her new space!

Voting goes from now through this Sunday, 3/25.

We will be sure to share before and after pictures, project updates, cost breakdowns and sources as we begin working on the two rooms, so stay tuned!

246 Thirteen82 Chronicles: Update & Color Scheme Vote

Well, the voting has ended and the majority has decided that light fixture number one is the chosen one!

Yes, the others "look" like outdoor lights because they are in fact, outdoor lights.  The point is to give Emily's space a lake house feel without getting too "themey".  Here are a couple examples of where outdoor lights have worked lovely inside:

{1 / 2 / 3}

But, winner winner, you selected this Pottery Barn light fixture!

Wait, what?  $180 for two?  That is over half of the entire bed and bath budget!

The intention was to find inspiration.  Now, it's our turn to knock it off on our budget.  And I have a plan for that, you will just have to stay tuned!

If you follow along on Facebook, you may have seen that Emily and I did some thrifting last week for the project.

We scored a $5 headboard from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore:

OK, so it's an old old door.  But it's going to be a rockin' headboard, just you wait!

A soap pump for $4!

And a cute bucket to place on the counter and fill with toiletries or wash clothes, for $2:

But now it's time to start painting!  Painting the walls, the headboard, the bucket....  So we need a color plan!

Thanks to my friend, Pinterest, I have stumbled across two websites that help with coming up with great color combinations and inspiration. Design Seeds and Photo Card Boutique.  They take a basic photo, and snag the beautiful colors to give you a fantastic color scheme.

Here are a couple we have our eyes on for this guest bathroom/bedroom makeover.  Which would you pick?
