421 Thirteen82 Chronicles: Bed & Bath Intro & a Vote

Welcome to the first edition of the Thirteen82 Chronicles!  I am very excited to announce that my new lovely assistant, Emily, is letting me partner up with her on a couple of projects in her super beautiful home!  And then I get to share those projects with you.  And even better, we thought it would be fun to have you help us out with some of the decision making!

Why Thirteen82?  Her house number is 1382.  Isn't it fab?

When I asked Emily to describe her personal style, this is what she said, "Comfy... Lake Cottage Wanna Be"  She doesn't want her home to look like it came out of a catalog.  She likes to mix and match unique, re-purposed pieces.  She also wants people to be comfortable when they come over, and not worry about taking off their shoes or spilling on furniture.  It's all about kicking back with a glass of wine and snuggling in for good conversation.

That's what will make this series SO much fun!  We get to get creative, paint, thrift and work on a boatload of new DIY projects!  And of course, we will be tossing organizing ideas into the mix as well!

We decided to start on her guest bedroom/bathroom combination space.

And get this.  We are going to attempt to tackle both spaces on a total budget of $300!  Talk about design on a dime stuff here!

We have a great blank slate to play with!

We hope to address everything from lighting to textiles and accessories.  Even a headboard!  It's not going to be easy, but we are up for the $300 challenge!

First round of business, selecting some new lights in the bathroom to replace these:

Here are a couple of styles I had in mind:

This is where you come in!  Leave a comment on this post with which number you would love to see in her new space!

Voting goes from now through this Thursday, 3/1.

We will be sure to share before and after pictures, project updates, cost breakdowns and sources as we begin working on the two rooms, so stay tuned!

  1. Ooh I love #1 and #4 is a close second

  2. Eek! I am torn! But, I think I have to go with #1

    ReplyDelete
  3. I love number 1. It's simple but still packs in the style, and looks like it would provide the most light.

    ReplyDelete
  4. #1 is what I think would look the best in that space.

    ReplyDelete
  5. For sure #4, but I am biased because that is the same one I have in mind for my bathroom reno, :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. #1! I like the clear glass for the bathroom since the room looks kind of dark.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I like #4... where is it from?

  8. I think #1. The others look to bulky. Bathrooms shouldn't have anything bulky in them. It also has the most glass, which will allow much more light to shine out.

    1. I agree. Number 1 b/c it's the most transparent and least bulky since it's for an interior bathroom.

  9. I love #1 too! That's my vote!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Definitely #1...and if I had to select another, #4 would be second place.

  12. I'd go with #1! I like #4 but I feel like every blog is choosing a similar light these days. Plus, #1 has a romantic, classic feel for a master.

    ReplyDelete
  13. To me, #1 has a very 'cottage-y' feel to it. So, I vote #1!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I love #1. I think it will open up the room and add more light than the others since it is clear. Very simple and elegant!

  15. #1 definitely! The others are cute but look too outdoorsy.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I would choose either 1 or 4 in that order!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Love #1! The others look they should be outside and may make it a very dark looking room to me. I like the idea of getting to know a whole new house on the blog too :-)

    ReplyDelete
  18. To save money, and if its even possible, I'd turn those ones you already have on the walls, upside down and you'd have the same style. Ofcourse paint them and (if possible) add a round light bulb. Just sayin... but if I had the choice, I'd choose #1 for the lights. :) Have fun!

    1. I agree. Repurpose to give yourself more money to spend on other things. You can buy a can of the metallic hammered copper paint and get the effect of #3, but jut but a new globe that is clear. The best of both workds!

    2. Oh, no worries, I have DIY plans for any of the options above, they are all just inspiration at this point! :)

      Jen

    3. I actually like the shape of the existing fixture, too: my first though would be spray paint in a hammered bronze or copper finish. #3 would be my first pick for a new purchase... I like the shape of #1 & all the light it would provide - it's going to be a lot more maintenance to keep clean though!

      Delete
  19. #1 looks great for a bathroom, not too clunky.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Love # 2, it is just so different!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow - I'm definitely in the minority here...I like #3, simply because I CAN'T see the bulb (thus avoiding that "blind spot" effect when you look directly at a lightbulb. I know - I know..."just don't look at the lightbulb!"

    ReplyDelete
  22. This sounds like it is going to be such a fun series to read!! I love it!!

My fave is also #3 because the bulb is not on display, which hurts my eyes!

    ReplyDelete
  23. #1!!! I love that you are doing this, so fun! and I can't wait to see what you do! being in the middle of home renovation myself I need all the help I can get in terms of decorating. Love the new layout look too, haven't stopped by in awhile :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't like #1. I think it's too bare looking, and I wonder what the light would look like in there...I like #4 or #3.

    ReplyDelete
  25. #1!! I've been seeing this type of fixture more and more and I really love it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i like #'s 1 and 3, depending on what the rest of the bathroom "feels" like

    ReplyDelete
  27. #1. It's clean and simple, and probably very bright! Possibly #3 as a second!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love #2, but for a bathroom, I think I'd go with #1--more open light.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I like #1, but it may be too blinding. I also like #3, but that may not give out enough light. That's a tough one!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I like #1 the best!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi Jen! I've been reading your blog for few weeks now and I have to say that I love it!! I stumbled onto your blog through Pinterest and have been hooked ever since! I never realized how much of an organizational wannabe I am till now! You have really inspired me to tackle on new projects in my own home (we're starting on our pantry this week, yikes!). Keep the great ideas coming! I always enjoy reading them.

I'm having a hard time deciding between 1 and 2. 2 defiantly has a lake house feel to it but 1 would be very warm and inviting in a bathroom. Good luck deciding!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. 1 or 4, i cant decided. I am leaning more toward 4 though!!!
    LOVE this new series!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I like #2 and #4 -- difficult to know without really knowing th space or the other things deocrating with!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. #1 for sure!

  35. Love #1 (and I think everyone else does too!) I am so excited for this, her personal style description is very similar to mine! I can't wait to see what you do and replicate it in my home!

    ReplyDelete
  36. #3, but it would be important to know how they look with the light on - especially for bathroom mirrors.

    ReplyDelete
  37. #1 is the cutest to me, the most simple looking of them all.

    ReplyDelete
  38. #1. It's simple, classic and not too heavy looking like the others.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Number 1 looks unique to me.

    ReplyDelete
  40. This is fun! I really like #1. Several have mentioned the glaring light...you could try the frosted "soft" focus lightbulbs. #4 is my second choice.

    ReplyDelete
  41. #1 - my brain also goes to what will be easier to clean!! In general style terms, I like any but #3.

    ReplyDelete
  42. #1...plain and simple!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I vote #1! The room seems dark, so the glass look will help lighten it up.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't think I need to vote, everyone else has said it :) I love #1

    ReplyDelete
  45. Number 1 feels more like an interior light, though I also like #2.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I looooooove #1. As soon as you reveal the source I will be getting two for master and two for my guest baths!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I love #1!!! I want those for my house

    ReplyDelete
  48. I have to go with #3, it's by far the cutest! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  49. 2 and 4 look very outdoorsy to me. I think #1 has a more airy, light feel to it which goes with her feel for the house.

    ReplyDelete
  50. #1! But why not just fab up what she already has? What she has is very similar to fixture #1 - just flip it, paint it, and update the shade.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Oh, no worries, I have DIY plans for any of the options above, they are all just inspiration at this point! :)

  51. I agree with so many others when I say no. 1 is my favourite.
So light. I am looking forard to this series of redecorating!!!

  52. Yep I agree. Flip it over, paint it, and update the shade. Easy and inexpensive.

  53. I'm thinking that #3 would probably look best. I like #1 as well... I think 2 & 4 might be too bulky.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like the "look" of #2 but since it's a bathroom where LIGHT is crucial, I think #1 would work the best -- can't wait to see the rest of the decor to see it all tie in together. :)
And LOVE the name of your series...i heart creative names. haa!

    ReplyDelete
  55. #2 has more of the cottage/lake house feel to me but #1 is nice too. I do like the idea of painting and flipping the existing one if you can.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I just LOVE #1! Love the clear glass with the Edison style bulb!

    ReplyDelete
  57. #1, definitely. I like that you can see through to the light.

    ReplyDelete
  58. #4 - I see everyone voting on #1 but I think the clear glass would maybe cause you to use a bulb of less wattage so it doesn't blind anyone :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. #4 or agree with the comment above and try to repurpose the original ones.

    ReplyDelete
  60. All are very nice, but for that space, I think #1 is the right one-- lots of light comes through, and it's not "heavy" looking.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I love #1 as well, but it doesn't scream lake house to me, #2 says that more...

    ReplyDelete
  62. I like #3, but being a bathroom the light from #1 might be best. I am excited to see how y'all decorate this; I too have stained wood trim while most great trim embellishments in blogland are white. Lovely home.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think #1 will give more light since you can never have too much light is a bathroom. But I think #3 is more of the cottage feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I love number 2...I think it would provide great light and look great!

    ReplyDelete
  65. #1...the others look too "outdoorsy" for my taste.

    ReplyDelete
  66. #1 is very cool and would let a lot of light shine. But if her family doesnt like the brightness of staring at exposed light bulbs, go with #3 :-)

    ReplyDelete
  67. I love #1, but I don't like how you can see through to the light bulb. I feel like I'd get blinded every time I turn the light on. Any way to make the glass etched or foggy? I think the other choices remind me of outdoor lights.

    ReplyDelete
  68. #1! Besides, who would want something called #2 in a bathroom?!? Ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hmm...honestly not the biggest fan of any of the options. However, I would probably choose #1 over any of the other ones. I agree with Nichole too. I don't really like that you can see the light bulb.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I like #2 and #3. But I guess it would also depend on if you were placing the fixture in the same spot as the original fixtures. #2 would give more all around light in the current spot. #3 would probably need to be raised higher to allow for more light, at least I think so.

    ReplyDelete
  71. My first thought was #4, but #1 provides more light...so I guess I'm saying #1 :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. #1 or #3 For some reason #2 and 4 look too much like outdoor lights to me.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Love #4. #1 is great, but I think frosted or opaque is easier on the eyes

    ReplyDelete
  74. #4. I'm a bit biased, I have the same light on my front porch. But I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sounds like a fun challenge. Sorry to do this to you, but I vote for #5...Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint on those babies would work just fine!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I LOVE #1! We have those(or similar) in our home! :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think #1 is good - it will give off more light with the glass.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Definitely #1. It has a timeless appeal, will be easier to keep dusted, and will give off more light.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I can't wait to see what you come up with. What a challenge!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Absolutely #2! I love the color with the extra unique factor!

    ReplyDelete
  81. #1 is really pretty but the idea of turning on the light in the middle of the night or early morning means lots of blinky with the eyes, ugh!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. forgot to say that i am excited to see the transformations and see new diy!!

If you are going to change I pick #1.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I like 3 but only if you lighten the wall color, if not than 1

    ReplyDelete
  84. I like #1, but thinking it would be hard to keep clean because of the hairspray and condensation. I think #3 looks the easiest to keep clean out of all of them.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I like number 1 the most. I think it has a cleaner look and smoother finish for a bathroom. I would think you would want an easy surface to clean to keep the dust and bathroom "germies" away. ;) Number 3 could work too for cleaning purposes, but as it only provides downlight, it might not be the best in a bathroom.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I like number 2. Looking forward to seeing all the upcoming projects!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I pick #1. Can't wait to see how the rooms progress!
    Sharon B.

    ReplyDelete
  88. #1 is my favorite. Where did you find it? I would like to investigate it as a possibility for our hall.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Number 1! And I'm really looking forward to see the changes.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I like #4 because that is what we choose for our entry, but it is VERY hard to keep clean and dosen't give off alot of light! I totally LOVE #1! They are timeless and beautiful!!
    Amy P.

    ReplyDelete
  91. #1 but I have to say they all look like outdoor lights instead of indoor lights. Any other options?

    ReplyDelete
  92. #1 is definitely my pick, with #4 as runner-up.

What a great idea. I'm really looking forward to this series. Looks like a n-i-c-e house.

    ReplyDelete
  93. my vote is for #1 or #2!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I LOVE #1!! So pretty and has a great lake look to it.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I like #1. Can't wait to see the progress!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I like #3, of course it would depend on the color of the room but I like it alot!

    ReplyDelete
  97. 3 but 1 is nice too

    ReplyDelete
  98. I would #1 because it will keep a small, closed in space like a bathroom nice and open and airy! If the lights were going ABOVE the mirror, then I might go with number 4. But if they are just replacing the ones on the side of the wall, then definitely #1!

Good luck, and this is SO FUN!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Should have added a poll to make it easier!! :p

    I vote for #1

    ReplyDelete
  100. This is a hard one, as I really like the existing one. But I do guess you are going for a change, so in that case I really like #3! Although, seems like many have said #1 is best because of the lighting, and I do have to agree with that. It is nice to have ample lighting in the bathroom. But still I like #3 a lot. My 23 year old son said he likes #2 or 4.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I like 4, but seems like a lot of people like 1. I noticed #1 that if you take the existing light and turn it upside down, you get a similar shape. You can do amazing things with spray paint nowadays too. Just saying, since you're doing things on a budget. And would it be possible to change the plate that goes on the wall with something. I've seen things on Pinterest where people have done similar things to lights to make it their own. The ultimate DIY light. :-) and I love the challenge if you can do it.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I really like 3 because it seems to be able to simply match anything. It would also be MUCH easier to clean. #1 does not seem cottage style to me whilw 3 does. Good luck. How fun.

    ReplyDelete
  103. #1 is my favourite! #2 comes in second.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I like #1, but this would only work if you were able to keep the same light bulb (wouldn't quite have the same affect with a CFL bulb).

    ReplyDelete
  105. I'm with everyone else when I say, #1!

    ReplyDelete
  106. #1 for the curve and lightness of the glass. The others seem too much like they belong outside.

    ReplyDelete
  107. If these are more for mood, I love #3. I agree more lighting is needed. Maybe a ceiling light would help? If these are all the lighting there will be, than I vote for #1!!

    ReplyDelete
  108. I LOVE No. 2 for sure. But I also like No.1

    ReplyDelete
  109. I absolutely love both 2 and 3! And I can't wait to see more of this transformation, we are going for the same feel with our new home!

    ReplyDelete
  110. #1 by far! #3 is ok & #2 looks heavy. #4 looks like it belongs outside. Can't wait to see!

    ReplyDelete
  111. #1, but I like #4, too. I can't wait to see where this goes! Fun!

    ReplyDelete
  112. If I had to choose I'd say #1 I actually have one very very similar to #2 on my front porch and I must say most of them look like outdoor lamps. To give the bathroom more lighting is why I chose #1.
